My Story...

I've been married to my husband, Dan, for over 35 years. We met in our early twenties at a Christian Missionary Conference. He is a carpenter and I am a Registered Nurse. We started our family with a beautiful baby girl, and in less than two years, we added twin boys.

Within the next few years, we were blindsided by the diagnosis of a cancerous brain tumour in one of our sons, shortly after both boys were diagnosed with autism.

Our son survived his brain cancer (twice!) but went on to have numerous other significant medical issues over the years. He remained non-verbal as well and required constant care until his death.

I am a writer who understands the struggles, fears, and grief of raising special needs kids and grieving the loss of a child.

My stories of everyday life share a message of hope through a Christian perspective, from a mom who has 'been there'.

Local Author shares caregiving journey, faith in new memoir at Victory Church book signing.

A deeply personal story of caregiving, loss, and resilience was shared with the community April 18, as Moose Jaw author Kathleen Knapp welcomed readers to a book signing event at Victory Church.

The event, held in the former St. Andrew's United Church building, drew an estimated 60 attendees for an afternoon that included a reading, conversation, and the opportunity to meet the author behind her latest release, "Speechless: A Mother's Memoir of Caregiving."

Retired nurse hopes to give caregivers a voice

Author Kathleen Knapp spent four and a half years writing a book about her son, “Benjamin”. He was multiply handicapped and passed away in 2020, during COVID.

Knapp was a registered nurse for 35 years, now retired. She moved from Ontario to Moose Jaw in 2021. After her son passed away, she questioned the purpose of God in her life. This experience took her on a journey of faith, which resulted in coming closer to God.

After many drafts, she finished her book. Rather than hiring a professional editor for the manuscript, she did all the work herself and hopes to help other caregivers through her book. She said, “This book will give other caregivers a voice”.

Moose Jaw author shares powerful story of caregiving and hope

A Moose Jaw author is opening her life to readers through a deeply personal new book.

Kathleen Knapp has released A Mother's Memoir of Caregiving, a self-published work that shares the story of her son Benjamin and the years she spent caring for him.

"March 1st of 2026, I self-published A Mother's Memoir of Caregiving, and it's about the life of my son, Benjamin, and my role as his caregiver," Knapp said. "It sort of is a journey of our story."

Benjamin lived with complex medical needs. Knapp said he was non-verbal, autistic and a two-time cancer survivor.

"Three authors to read their newest works at meet-and-greet event"

“I just find it fascinating the doors that God has opened (and) through my experiences being able to share some of the hope and faith with other people … ,” she said. “He uses our pain for a purpose — I know that sounds cliché — but there is a Scripture about making beauty from ashes."
